Training 2008
 A 34-game Reds
exhibition schedule opens on Feb. 27, and includes 17 games at
Ed Smith Stadium. Baseball is a Sarasota tradition dating back to 1924, when
the New York Giants arrived. They were followed by the Red Sox and then the White Sox.
Now the Cincinnati Reds take the field in 2008, possibly for the last time
in Sarasota, with games at Sarasota's
Ed Smith Stadium. Pitchers and catchers will report to the City
of Sarasota Sports Complex in February. Unfortunately, residents
of the City of Sarasota did not vote for a special bond in a
referendum, (it lost by about 200 votes), and the Reds have
announced they will be leaving Sarasota without a stadium
renovation. Do you want to see the Reds remain in Sarasota?
There is an effort to come before the Sarasota County Commission
to fund a stadium renovation and keep the Reds in Sarasota, but
the members of the Commission need to hear from those that come
to Sarasota and support the local economy.
Write to the County Commissioners and let them know how the
Reds benefit Sarasota.
Ticket prices for Reds 2008 spring
training games are expected to be $14 for box seats, $12 for reserved seats and
$7 for general admission. Seven games this spring will be
considered "premium games," including afternoon exhibitions
against the Indians (March 4), Yankees (March 6, March 14),
Braves (March 8) and Tigers (March 17). They also include home
night games against the Phillies (March 13) and Blue Jays (March
24). Prices are $2.00 more for Premium
