Tampa Bay Rays
2008 Spring Training Schedule
The Tampa Bay Rays will play their
final game at Progress Energy Park, Home of
Al Lang Field, on Friday, March 28 against the Cincinnati
Reds. The Rays will kick off their 2008 Spring Training schedule
on Friday, February 29 against the Reds in Sarasota, Fla. The
30-game slate includes 14 home games at Progress Energy Park in
downtown St. Petersburg. The home opener will be played on
Saturday, March 1 vs. the Toronto Blue Jays. The Rays will host
the New York Yankees on Wednesday, March 12. The Cleveland
Indians come to town on Monday, March 10 and Thursday, March 20.
The Philadelphia Phillies visit on Friday, March 7 and
Wednesday, March 19.
The Rays will move their Spring Training headquarters to the
newly renovated Charlotte Sports Park facility in Port
Charlotte, Fla., in 2009. The historic Al Lang site has
accommodated major league Spring Training since 1914, hosting
camp for the St. Louis Browns, Phillies, Boston Braves, Yankees,
St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, New York Mets and the
Orioles prior to the birth of the Rays in 1998. The Rays
unveiled plans to build a new waterfront ballpark on the current
site of Progress Energy Park.
Nearby are the
Cincinnati Reds,
Pittsburgh
Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and
Boston Red Sox spring training camps. Be sure to
check their schedules for more exciting baseball action.
